Dr. Schaeffer’s Bio
Dr. Schaeffer, a native of Reading, PA, has practiced internal medicine in Lebanon since 1961. After receiving his M.D. degree from Temple University in 1955, he interned for one year at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Reading, spent two years in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. in Military Psychiatry with the 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany and then completed his internal medicine training at the Guthrie Clinic-Robert Packer Hospital.
He was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1964 and became a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 1974. While he is interested in primary care internal medicine, Dr. Schaeffer has special interest in geriatrics and was certified in 1988 and re-certified in 1998 by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Geriatrics.
He is currently the medical doctor for both the Transitional Care Unit of the Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) at the Hyman Caplan Pavilion and of the GSH Hospice. Dr. Schaeffer serves on the board of Trustees of the GSH and is a past president of the GSH Medical Staff as well as past Chairman of the Medical Department. He has served as Cornwall Borough Health Officer since 1964. Dr. Schaeffer and his wife, Kathleen, are parents of six children, all grown and scattered across the United States. Besides his family, Dr. Schaeffer has interests in gardening, bird watching, reading, and music.
